RedBurn (11), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Apr 12, 2005 I suppose others may have had a bad bottle, but I’m lucky - I can get it straight from the source in downtown Raleigh. I have, in fact, never had it bottled. Greenshields is a gratifying beer on-site, with a smooth, strong flavor and a fair color. I recommend it to visitors - we locals already know... ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Sep 5, 2004 uh oh, i have a feeling what ive been thinking was "bad bottles" of beer, is actually the beer. all of these beers smell the same, fruity and sour smelling like a jolly rancher. its amber in color, but for gods sake, is this a beer? there is no presence of hops, malt, whatever you think is in beer, doesnt appear to be in this. its not very good, i dont think i would recommend anyone to drink anything from this brewery. this beer is horrid. i think i liked their ipa actually, but all the others ive had, are sir- not worth a fuck. imgod945 (1), New York, USA does not count Aug 22, 2004 Yuck! sour!!! is that how it supposed to taste? almost like drinking vinegar? thought I had a bad bottle from my monthly BeverageBistro.com initially, but when the next bottle tasted just as awful...I guess it’s not the place, but the beer!! beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA May 23, 2004 Medium brown color, Large head. Aroma is malty, nutty and sweet. A medium bodied amber. Malts are nutty and sweet. Hops are slightly spicy. This beer is a touch lactic, possibly infected. This is also the 2nd beer from this brewery that has this ‘quality’. Otherwise it’s pretty much a run of the mill amber. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and a touch sour argo0 (6842), Washington DC, USA Mar 7, 2004 (draft) Clear amber with off-white head. Aroma is mild sweet, some herbal, some pepper. Taste is peppery, medium sweet, some herbal, finishes grassy/herbal. Light/medium body, quite quaffable. wilkie (1189), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Dec 2, 2002 Not much aroma. Chemical taste - unbalanced
malt flavor. No hops to mention, either. Somewhat
ok, but not worth repeating unless its free.
kublai3 (170), Staten Island, New York, USA Dec 13, 2001 Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA Aug 29, 2000 Updated: Oct 6, 2004The beer after departing the 12-ounce brown bottle sets in the glass a reddish-brown with a fair to middling frothy light tan head that evaporates quickly leaving a sufficient sheet of lace to cover the glass. Nose is all malt, a bit astringent and the start slightly sweet with a light grain profile and the top light in its feel to the palate. Finish is crisply acidic and the hops adequate in their spiciness, very dry, drinkable.
