Apr 16, 2004 I hope I got a bad keg because, this is one of the worst stouts I've had. Has a hint of smoke in the flavor, but the body is as thin and fizzy as club soda.

Mar 7, 2004 (draft) Clear mahogany body topped by beige head. Aroma is sweet coffee. Taste is bittersweet coffee, some herbal bitter. Medium body. Pleasant, "accessible" stout, with that unusual herbal twist.

Aug 22, 2003 Pours out to the usual, dark color of the style with next to no head. Aroma is that of roasted malt and not much else. Taste is good, albeit it someone average. It is a bit on the thin side without a ton of oomph that many stouts give. This would be a good stout to give to someone jumping up from Guinness.

I’m more than a little hesitant to add this review as I think the two bottles I sampled were infected, but I will add my two cents on what was there..
----------------Dark black color. Medium head. Aroma is malty and choclately. A light bodied stout. I think this bottle is infected as I am picking up a lactic wine like quality that shouldn’t be here. Malts are roasted and a touch chocolate. Hops and other qualities are masked by the sourness. Mouthfeel is thin. Rest is impossible to judge.

May 30, 2003 Pitch black beer - no light escapes at all. Mocha chocolate colored head, smallish really but decent retention. 1st pass - muted coffee tones mixed with red wine. Not real agressive given the bold appearance. 2nd pass - still laying kind of flat expecting the aroma to jump out. Somewhat disappointing. 3rd pass - some malt hints trying to escape but still essentially dead. Time to taste this bad boy. good mouthfeel- there is real body here. The flavor on entry is straight ahead coffee that dissolves into a winey fruitiness at mid-palate. finish is strong and clean. Not the best stout but certainly among the better.

May 17, 2003 What you see is what you get with this beer. This could be a beer from an English pub. Strong, almost bitter flavor with a high alcohol content. Not my "cup of tea," but if you like dark beers you will like this one.
