JPDIPSO (4862), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Oct 18, 2009 Chill hazed dark straw color with a small but stable cm. of white smaller bubbles. Doughy aromas. Flour, light yeast , bit of floral hops. Sweeter flavors. A hot cereal taste, with cream of wheat and malt-o-meal coming to mind. A bit of corn comes to mind as well. Light honey and and grass to herbal hops in the middle and finish. LIght sweet grains in the linger. Seems more like a kolsh. Skyview (4003), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Aug 30, 2009 Sampled during Great Taste of Midwest 2009 in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a clear golden pale yellow brew with a thin white head that quickly dissipates to a thin film. Aroma of golden grain malt, a hint of grassy hops and some honey. Taste is light to medium bodied, flavors of golden grain malt, a hint of honey and corn. Finish has a short grassy hop bitterness then a crisp, clean cut aftertaste. wxman (582), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA May 29, 2009 I have to agree with a previous rater. This brew is under-rated. We need to remember to rate against others of the same style and not prejudice against styles that are not our favorites. Sampled 2 years ago at a small pub in St. Louis, I found this to be a noteworthy domestic pils in the company of Victory and Stoudt. On draft, it pours a plae bright golden with a robust white head that diminishes some but continues to ring the glass as you consume. Crisp, clean taste of pale malt sweetness and a light hop bitterness. Some grassiness as well. This is a delicious summer thirstquencher true to the style as originally intended in the 19th Century.
Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA May 11, 2009 Golden and somewhat cloudy. Small white head that leaves decent lacing. Plenty of carbonation is visible. Aroma is Saaz hops, honey and grain. Flavor is dry and is grainy with malt, spice, and honey. The finish leaves a dry hop bitterness and is creamier. sethdude (600), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 3, 2009 Pours light gold with a medium head and medium lacing. Aroma is honey sweet malts, hop pepper. Flavor is much better than expected, finely balanced malt meets good dry hop right in the center of the flavor profile, absolutely no off notes in a medium body. Crisp, refreshing, and well done. There are not enough breweries doing these lighter lagers this well anymore. A very well made example of the style, and highly underrated here. RAYBOY01 (1812), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 24, 2009 dm9831...thanks muchly! Clear and pale golden pour, looking a touch oily with a moderate white head. Aroma of lightly roasty caramel malt and light herbal hops. Likewise in flavor with some additional grassy notes amd touches of corn, honey, and bread dough. Decent enough beer. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Feb 27, 2009 Rating from a bottle supplied by dm9831, carefully poured into my Choc Beer glass - It has a clear golden body with a modest white head and spotty lacing. The aroma is bready with some corn and honey topped off by grassy and zest hop scents. The flavor follows suit but is crying out for some more hops to truly raise it to the Pilsener level. All in all, though, a pretty sessionable lager. Silphium (2114), Haslett, Michigan, USA Feb 10, 2009 Hazy straw-yellow body, thin off-white head. Grassy, lemony nose, soapy and herbal. The body has firm bite, with grassy hops and lemony citrus. Bitter, herbal finish. Surprisingly refreshing on winter’s warmest day.
