Commercial Description:
The ideal temperature to serve it is between 8 and 10° C and always in its original and single glass. The Vintage of the Hermitage is brewed starting from three kinds of hops and special malts. After its fermentation, the beer rests for three months out of special tanks in order to deposit its sediment and fully develope its specific flavour. The exceptional richness of its ingredients as well as the attention given to its mixing make this original Cuvée a "must" for the experts. It is besides the only Belgian beer having received with three recoveries the gold medal allotted by "World selection" (Institute for the selection of quality). It is for these reasons that the Vintage of the Hermitage is a national success in the best establishments of Belgium. A beer red-brown, dark, consistent, pleasant and with the bitter after-taste, of type "Armagnac". In Christmas, taste also Christmas de Cuvée of the Hermitage.

(Bottle 25 cl) Vintage 1993 - from before it had the Grimbergen-tag added. Beautiful light-brown beer with a nice, full head. Caramel flavour from the dark malts with a sudden and uncompromising bitterness. 120993

The old version. The owner of Delirium Café estimated the bottle to be from the mid seventies. I was very surprised that the beer was totally clear. Of course it was poured carefully, but I still find it impressive. Deep reddish brown coloured. The aroma and flavour are mature without too many raisins or prunes present. Very fruity, complex and very well balanced.

this is the old version of the Cuvée de l’Ermitage (8.5% instead of 7.5%) as it was brewed originaly by Union (taken over by Maes in 1978). This version was even better as the actual, showing more character.

Very hazy amber with medium tan head slowly fading to light lacing, and dappled dishwater suds like topping. Intruguing and highly complex aroma. Starts kinda lambic sour and barnyard yeast but then turns to liquorice, dried fruits (bananas and raisins) pine resin, honey and alcohol and a very faint hint of epoxy glue. Medium body. Big, and I mean BIG fruity nectar honey, plus burnt sugar/caramel and some smoked flavours. Some bitter and alcohol kick in some where in the middle and end. A pity the flavour is so one dimensional otherwise it would be a really great beer. Can’t wait to try the Christmas de Cuvée de Hermitage.
