Commercial Description:
The ideal temperature to serve it is between 8 and 10° C and always in its original and single glass. The Vintage of the Hermitage is brewed starting from three kinds of hops and special malts. After its fermentation, the beer rests for three months out of special tanks in order to deposit its sediment and fully develope its specific flavour. The exceptional richness of its ingredients as well as the attention given to its mixing make this original Cuvée a "must" for the experts. It is besides the only Belgian beer having received with three recoveries the gold medal allotted by "World selection" (Institute for the selection of quality). It is for these reasons that the Vintage of the Hermitage is a national success in the best establishments of Belgium. A beer red-brown, dark, consistent, pleasant and with the bitter after-taste, of type "Armagnac". In Christmas, taste also Christmas de Cuvée of the Hermitage.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of over-ripe fruits as well as a light note of oxidation. The flavor is sweet matly with notes of over ripe fruits and caramel leading to a dry and slightly oxidiced finish.

(Bottle 25 cl) Vintage 1993 - from before it had the Grimbergen-tag added. Beautiful light-brown beer with a nice, full head. Caramel flavour from the dark malts with a sudden and uncompromising bitterness. 120993

33 cL bottle from DHVL. Pours hazy brown with no head and no carbonation. Wineous and malty aroma. Fruity and malty flavoured with a nice roasted note and lasting dense caramel malty impression. Sweet and malty flavoured finish. Mild bitter and smooth dense caramel to light chocolate malty flavoured with a light vanilla note. Nice stuff.

Bottle 25cl. [ Vintage 1997 ].
Clear medium amber color with a fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, oxidide, vintage malt. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090320]

Bottle, 8.5%. BB 1997, 12 years ago. OK fruity aroma, some raisin, a bit old-smelling, but not too bad. Muddy red brown colour. The flavour is very bready. Quite old-tasting.

this is the old version of the Cuvée de l’Ermitage (8.5% instead of 7.5%) as it was brewed originaly by Union (taken over by Maes in 1978). This version was even better as the actual, showing more character.
