milljam (192), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Jan 18, 2008 More potent in aroma and flavor than the Blonde. Aroma and flavors are of a belgian candy sweetness (close to toffee). Good warming finish.

Deep brown/mahogany color with ruby notes and a dense beige head that left a fine lace on the glass.
The smell is of fruit mostly with some raisins and fig strengthening as the beer warmed. The smell was subtle at first and then became more noticeable over time.
The taste is sweet with caramel notes, fruit, and a mild bitterness that brings some late balance to this beer. It is sweet, but not so cloying that it is undrinkable. The carbonation is light, but helps the drinkability.
This beer became better as it warmed in my glass, mostly do to an improved aroma. I would think this beer would be even better if there were a few other notes than the sweetness, like some yeast .
GodOfThunder (315), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 6, 2009 Draft at Chimes in Baton Rouge, LA. Sweet cherry and raisin smell. Flavor is very light and fruity with a substantial sweetness and lots of cherries. Pretty mild overall with a light mouthfeel. It tastes good and is drinkable, but very light for the style. snook91901 (29), USA Dec 27, 2008 this dubbel is mild tasting in a great ways. the complicated fruity/yeasty flavors of most dubbels is reduced so the more subtle qualities of great abbey ale shine through. short creamy head, dark red color, subtle dried fruits flavors. i love it! rosenbergh (199), Helsinki, Finland Dec 23, 2008 330 ml bottle. From Germany.
Dark red brown colour with small lasting creamy head. Very nice sweet fruity and toffee aroma. Flavour is a bit disappointing but still pretty great. Caramel/toffee/fruits.
