Taste, sweet, and little metallic for the frist 3 sips..but went away, as it warms it definitely gets better. Not too bad, has that favor in the finish that is in pranqster, and i dont know what it is, but its nice...i could drink 2, probably not more though., and dont really think i would want to.... Initially poured a thick off-white foamy head but which subsided quickly into an island of subtle foam atop a clear ruby body, laced well. Aroma is nutty, fruit punch, vinous, birchbeer, strawberry-citric. Flavor is caramel, toffee, dark dried fruits, licorice, woody and phenolic. Perhaps also slightly chocolate in the finish. Palate is medium bodied with a carbonated bite right before the sweet fruity malty finish that lingers on the tongue. Overall very much like a vinous soda; interesting and quenching. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 17, 2009 Draft at Brickskeller. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium white head. Aroma is nuts, malty, notes of dried fruits. Flavor is sweet, heavy with dried fruits, caramel, toffee. It is okay, but certainly for me it was a difficult beverage to finish due to the sweetness of the beer. Initially I believed that the alcohol content was much higher than it actually is. Deep brown/mahogany color with ruby notes and a dense beige head that left a fine lace on the glass.
The smell is of fruit mostly with some raisins and fig strengthening as the beer warmed. The smell was subtle at first and then became more noticeable over time.
The taste is sweet with caramel notes, fruit, and a mild bitterness that brings some late balance to this beer. It is sweet, but not so cloying that it is undrinkable. The carbonation is light, but helps the drinkability.
This beer became better as it warmed in my glass, mostly do to an improved aroma. I would think this beer would be even better if there were a few other notes than the sweetness, like some yeast .
