It had to be Belgium, the small nation that’s been a giant in the world of brewing for centuries. They make such amazing beers. This one pours dark clear amber with a light tan, dissipating head. The aroma is a light caramel malt that gradually becomes more apparent as the beer warms. The flavor is of sweet caramel malt with chocolate and dark fruit notes. It’s definitely one that should be allowed to warm to cellar temperature or higher as it seems like a very simple beer. That’s best for most beers, but for this one it seemed to make an even bigger difference than usual. The finish is mildly dry with a hint of alcohol. note666 (289), Eindhoven, Netherlands

As I recall, this was an excellent double. Although Grimbergen has become increasingly overpriced by the bottle in beer/liquor stores, they make an excellent prodcut. This is a complex double of fruits and spices. HarryFlashman (469), Chatham, Kent, England

This was quite tarty and sour - apples, chocolate and cherries come through. Not really my cup of tea, but a good beer of its kind. Strykzone (1496), Wood River, Illinois, USA

A delightful aroma of sweet malt, lots of fruit, and yeast. A sweet candy flavor that offers complex fruit and some caramel. A tart fizzy carbonation. A fun beer to sample.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 20, 2008 Delightful chocolate like aroma with a hint of smokiness when the brew is consumed. A very good deep brown color with a hazy tan head. Tantalizing tart with a familiar taste of bittering hops used. Tasted like it needs a bit more time to condition, but nonetheless, it a high quality beer that can be enjoyed by all.
