Thanks Eric. The beer pours to a dark brown body with a thin white head and nice lacing. The aroma is slightly soapy hops, yeast, and spices. The flavor is sweet and has apples, golden raisins, earthy yeasts, turbinado sugar, light chocolate. The palate is sweet, medium bodied, slightly metallic, and definitely over-carbonated.

[Sampled in 2003.] One of the most sampled bottles and one of the favorites once. Easy drinkable, too much sweetness, weak bitterness, yeast, brown sugar, fruit, chocolate and raisin. But I’m always ready for a Grimbergen!

Aroma is typically brune, nutty sweet hints of chocolate over the candy sugar. Taste is similar and very drinkable.

(Draught at The Rover, Göteborg) Clear dark brown color, big lasting tan head. Fruity and yeasty scent. Fruity cherry and ale yeast taste, metallic aftertaste. Spritzy mouthfeel, low bitterness. Also a bit acidic, especially in the scent.

Mahogany pour with a small head, average lacing and retention. Aroma is caramel, spice, raisin, hint of chocolate. Medium to light bodied with a slightly sweet finish. Enjoyable but not interesting.

Bottle into Tulip glass: Aroma is full of beautifull dark fruits but ends a little candy sweet, clear dark ruby color when held up to the light, thin head but nice lacing, mouthfeel was a bit dryer than expected perhaps from high carbonation, but all in all a pretty nicely made beer

Rated 8/15/06: Nice dark amber brown color with a good thick tan head and lots of lacing. Aroma is medium with hints of dark fruits, chocolate, and some roasted sweetness. Mouthfeel is decent, but the flavor is a little off. Sweet and somewhat fruity it’s nice at first but there is a strange metallic like aftertaste that really puts this one off. Decent but I’m not very impressed.

33cl bottle from Tescos. Chestnut with a cream head; sour, roasted malt aroma; smooth and sweet, with chocolate and caramel; then a very dry, warming finish with a raisin edge.
