Dark brown in colour with a sparkling look to it. Head was off-white and medium. Didn’t last that long. Aroma was clear caramel/toffee, roasted, spicy, yeast, maybe some fig/plum/dry fruit. Not much hops to detect. But still very balanced. Flavour was medium sweet. Medium bodied with a sweet caramel roasted like finish. Great Dubbel. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 4, 2006 Bottle: Crimson bourgondy color with a light off-white head and good lacing. The nose is sweet and spicy with light fig and brown sugar/dough and rye notes. Very nice and clean as dubbels go. Malty and lightly roasty with a toasty and zesty mouthfeel. Dark caramel and plum in the flavor. Nice rich and yeasty. Good belgian, missing a bit of umami, but it’s a low alcohol one, so that’s not as crucial. Nice. invalid (302), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 30, 2006 pretty much what i expected. big beer but not as big as I had liked. Spicy and warm bicuit flavor that finishes very earthy. cheapdark (2049), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 29, 2006 Pours very dark transparent brown. Smells sorta yeasty or possibly breadlike. A noticable flavor of slight hop or malt bitterness. I thought it to be a little strong. Finish lingers bitter for a moderate time. Grim blonde is much better tasting and its a tripel. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 27, 2006 It’s a good belgian abbey dubbel. It is exactly what you would expect, a solid, pleasing beer and nothing more. Drink it when it’s cheaper than the next solid, pleasing dubbel. raymondwave (882), Finland
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Nov 23, 2006 Sugar, toffee, raisins, roasted banana, too estery, yeasty and fruity for my taste. Smarter than it’s the blonde companion tho. GG (1678), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 17, 2006 Pours out a dark, deep amber color, almost the color of fake maple syrup (think Log Cabin) with a minimal head. A candi sugar sweet nose, perhaps a bit of toffe with a rummy, raisny kick. Flavor profile is pretty much the same, mostly sweet from the sugar and malts with a bit of dark fruit in there. Smooth mouthfeel, nothing to harsh. Overall, it’s a nice beer to drink. Not extraordinary, but good. ehhdayton (1115), USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 11, 2006 Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. There is a little malt aroma but not much else. The flavor is malty with chocolate and toffee and has a mild finish with some brandy like charatersictics.
