jbrus (4117), Delft, Netherlands Oct 17, 2001 Updated: Oct 23, 2003 re-rate: I still think that this is very descent dubbel, although brewed by Maes. It has some characteristics that you don't find in a dubbel much, but more likely in a flanders sour ale like tartness and iron flavors and aroma. It's light sweet and has some spices. It's nicely hopped and well-balanced. The finish is again a little tart and dry. 10-17-01, 3.9: Although mass production it's not bad. It's rather sweet (sugar added?) and some spices. Hops are good present.
Straling (9), , Netherlands does not count Aug 27, 2008 Bottle 33cl.
Pours an nice clear brown/red colour, good size head, but doesn’t last very long. Very sweet aroma, can detect many fruits, mainly cherries and pears.
Also a faint smell of nuts.
Goes down the hatch very smooth, taste gives away the fruits again, but even stronger and more powerful. Hops also in the taste, with a touch of the alcohol, great combination all together.
Gary__ (89), London, Greater London, England Aug 24, 2008 Updated: Aug 26, 2008Ive past this up many times @ a local bottle shop.On this night It was gratifying or something sippin’ on a goblet of Grimbergen Dubble as if I were Henry the 8th. This beer drinks down resembling Rochefort 6,I reckon.Or maybe a watered down Rochefort 8,but without the street cred : I got crud loads of burnt chocolate...spices and dry backdrops Is that Forest Gateau in the aromas or something ?. I think this is coolio. spkevin (13), Doetinchem, Netherlands Aug 18, 2008 bottle. pours a dark ruby red colour with a good head. sweet aroma. taste is bitter/sweet and the aftertaste is very good. Unholy_Brewing (287), Melbourne, Australia Aug 17, 2008 ...draft at european beer cafe. Cherries on the nose, with a nice dark brown colour and lively carbonation. Decent sized off-white head that lasted till the end with good lacing. Flavor was nice, caramel, roasted malt, with some brandy and hints of dark fruits. Easy drinking, smooth, well balanced. Some slight spice notes in the relatively dry finish, with a good aftertaste. A good beer than I had not tried before, and will be having again. ska (37), Italy Aug 15, 2008 33cl bottle, dark amber colour, white head with brown notes, low carbonation, dark fruits and caramel aroma, metallic hops flavor, balanced dry finish
