Sweet malty nutty aroma with hints of raisin accompanied by faint acetone, banana and mothballs. Extremely sweet malty taste with hints of mothballs and banana. Very low bitterness. Caramel and raisin showing up. Flat palate. Sweet metallic finish. Another Grimbergen beer I didn’t enjoy at all.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 10, 2009 Updated: Dec 14, 2009One of those beers I can’t believe I haven’t rated, picked up from Ricoh SuperTesco of all places. Deep ruby with a dirty beige head; high, uneven and collapsing to a slim layer with specks of lace. Nose has peppery hints..prune and hazelnut at a push.Cardboard and Flying Saucers dabbed with Nutella; some brightening tints of cherry and apple to ease the paperiness. Faint pepper and chocolate, maybe cask wood. Alcohol very well buried. Slightly dusty Rich Tea coated with milk chocolate afters. Wheat and caramel emptiness. OK for a supermercado dunkel perhaps, but for a Belgian(?) dubbel on a frosty English night, not good enough. Wolfbass (89), Firenze, Italy
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 10, 2009 Red-brown color, clear, with a minimal beige head. The aroma is primarily of caramel with some sign of fruit. Medium body. Also in mouth the sweet of the caramel has the part most important. The end is decidedly sweet and a slighty acid. ralphdot (76), Billingham, Durham, England

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 1/5 | 16/20 | Dec 3, 2009 Brown sugar and raisin aroma with slight dustiness. Clear mahohany, with a thick tan head, decent lacing. Flavor begins with marshmallow, and quickly turns to sweet and lightly tart malt, then a light grassy finish. Some candy sugar throughout. Good balance and transitions. Mouthfeel is too thin. Good example of the style. dkachur (2402), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
