Brix (371), Denmark Oct 25, 2007 Updated: Oct 26, 2007Tasted 2007-10-25. 2 years old. Pours dark red/brown, clear with beige head. Aroma of rye and molasses. Ditto flavor. Initially a little bit of metal, but it fades. It’s OK I guess. DownsouthGav (602), Greater London, England Oct 10, 2007 Bottle @ Lowlander Malty nose. Pours dark brown/red. Small head. Malty mouthfeel. Taste is hoppy and malty. Enjoyit (1697), Vadum, Denmark Oct 1, 2007 Redbrown of color with a beige head. An aroma of red berrish, metallic, sweet malt and spice. A flavor of sweet fruits, prunes, raisins, alcohol, port and spice. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 24, 2007 Flaske.Knap så flot øl, men virkelig god duft af stærk øl, ikke alkohol men krydret stærk øl. Godt bid i smagen som ikke kommer fra humlen men fra karboneringen, hvilket er en god modvægt til sødmen. Rigtig god øl. janubio (157), Spain Sep 14, 2007 Red brown colour, with a good head that doesn’t hold too long. Aroma is sweet, alcoholic, toffee, cherries, dates.
Sweet flavor with a bit of sourness. Mouth of cherries, dates, sherry wine, with some hints of chocolate.Medium to light body. I’m not exactly a fan of Grimbergen but this is one is good enough. screwball (796), Motala, Sweden Sep 2, 2007 Dark brown-red. Begie small head. Way to sweet! Burnt sugar and malty. Dark toffee. Some dark fruits. wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Aug 13, 2007 Pours a deep, but clear, copper hue with a large, foamy, off-white head. Initial aroma is redolent of pecan pie, with walnut-like sourness. Further inspection reveals a touch of tannic sharpness that seems just out of place. Raisins, dates and red grapes follow behind the more powerful aromas. Some grassy to dank floral elements appear as the beer warms. I like most of the aroma, but there’s something disturbingly sharp and artificial that shouldn’t be present as well as a waxy cheese-rind aroma in the background. There’s also a bit of alcohol in the nose, but not too much. The flavour begins very sweet with a touch of acidity for balance. Lots of caramel type flavours are present along with darker, dried fruits. The finish is also very sweet, again with some acidity, and just a little bit of bitterness. Medium bodied (quite surprisingly) with an oily texture and lively, fine carbonation. This one just misses Kasteelbier Donker dessert beer territory, which wouldn’t have been a bad achievement in my opinion.
