rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Mar 11, 2006 (Bottle at Belgobaren, Stockholm) Nice amber color with a lasting offwhite head. Aroma is mailky, creamy with toffee and vanilla. ALso sourish with notes of juniper berries and a bit vinous. Sourish flavor, vinous and a bit strong. Fruity from grapes. Quite mild finish and with alcohol well hidden. Different for being a dark belgian, but still good. kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia Mar 8, 2006 Bottle (deGarre, Brugge): Brown with a tan head. Nice malty start with raisins and prunes following. Mild yeasty spice. Nice. Magicdave6 (5383), London, Greater London, England Jan 10, 2006 I have to say i was expecting something of a quad here. Sweet malt aroma. A different to usual taste, cant quite figure out what though, a bit syrupy. Nekronos (2243), Xalapa, Mexico Jan 2, 2006 VEry nice, I needed one of this, it was strong but a little sweet, the fom was not too strng, but was there. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Dec 15, 2005 33 cl Bottle. No yeast in bottom. Reddish brown colour with a fizzy white head. Sweet aroma with notes of malt and sourness. Also sweet and sour flavour with notes of malt and dried fruit, becomes sticky and alcoholic. yalnikim (776), Wellington, New Zealand Dec 9, 2005 Tasted 09/12/2005. 330ml bottle from Regional Wines.
Pours a reddish-brown with a light-tan head, that rears up a little and then fades away. Nose has a hint of spice but is mostly sweet malt and cognac-like alcohol. Sweet caramel and toffee in the mouth with some hints of port. Verging towards cloying. Warming, as you’d expect. Short and rather one-dimensional for such a strong beer. Followed this with the more complex and balanced Emerson’s Old 95, which blew it away totally. Bart (1625), Vosselaar, Belgium Dec 2, 2005 Brown-redish colour, off white head, clear. Heavy aroma, alcohol is dominant. Smouth taste in the begining. Ends strong, alcoholic taste. Strong finish. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Nov 11, 2005 Bottle. Beige head. Amber body. Scent of sour berries. Smooth palate. Fruity flavor. Surprisingly easy to drink for such a strong beer. Be careful out there.
