goldtwins (4078), Nesconset, New York, USA Mar 14, 2005 Thnaks to thebeercelar2. Poured a hazy dark gold with a thin off white head. Aroma of brown sugar and peaches. Flavor was sweet and fruity (tart fruit) with alcohol in the middle and finish. Nice warming sensation. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 12, 2005 Pours a hazy orange copper with a thin lightly-lacing off-white head. Aroma is lightly tart, bready and yeasty with a touch of caramel and alcohol. Starts with a bittersweet citric tartness and a nice, full, malty bready body. Finishes dry and lightly warming. A decent Belgian strong. Thanks to TheBeerCellar2 for sharing. skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA Mar 10, 2005 Pours a murky ruddy brown with some shimmer. The aroma is of sherry and raisin. Some hops are noticeable throughout, and add a floral aspect. The flavor is of a trappist dubbel (some sweet, some sour), with a little more power. The alchohol makes its way through, but dissapears in a short finish. Not a technically great beer, but a tasty one. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA Mar 7, 2005 Turbinado sugar and toasted malts with good dark fruits and brandyish finish. Lquorice and hops are both very mild but noticeable, good balanced big brune of above average quality for this brewery. RichardGretton (3128), Leicestershire, England Feb 26, 2005 Reddish brown beer with a glow. The aroma is lightly fermented and the flavour is fruity, fermented and very strong. Overall a nice beer. schuimkroaat (391), Leuven, Belgium Jan 26, 2005 Clear, rudy brown, weak head. Sweet and solvent-like aroma. Sugar and alcohol on the palate. Rather neutral and a bit rubbery flavour, not so bad, but not very good either. TBone (6675), Pori, Finland Jan 4, 2005 Bottled 33cl (BB 06/2005)
Nice red-amber color with small foamy white head. Fresh hoppy aroma with some anise and herbs. Medium to full bodied, oily palate with warming alcohol. Sweetish with fruity hops. Light bitter hoppy aftertaste. Very nice balanced brew, almost more like English than Belgium Ale. Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England Jan 1, 2005 Bottle brought back from Belgium. In a Duvel glass. Deep chesnut colour, fluffy white head. Aroma is full of caramel, malt, fruit and some smokiness with only a hint of alcohol in the background. The flavour is big, sweet and malty with a load of caramel and fruit, alcohol is evident as well as a bit of spiciness. Suprisingly found here is a touch of acidity. Quite highly carbonated. I guess it’s lacking in the true complexity of some other strong Belgians - but it sure has a lot of big, bold flavours and fairly well masked alcohol character. A beer you couldn’t hate.
