daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Jul 19, 2008 Another Grimbergen I have tried and it is good. I am a fan of this family of beers. Certainly has a malty and dried fruits. This beer goes down very easy with a sweet and very distinct Grimbergen flavor. Very strong and a tad hot. I liked it, but I like the dubbel more. BoBoChamp (1334), Gent, Belgium Jul 19, 2008 33cl, from De Hopduvel Gent, very complex, clear, small head, nice brew, the best of the Grimbergen-range shrubber85 (2833), Wallhalben, Germany Jul 7, 2008 Bottle. Sour caramel malt and alcohol aroma. Reddish brown color with moderate head. Toffee malt and astringent alcohol. Easy drinking - just not very complex. weaselkenievil (738), Cheshire, England Jul 6, 2008 At least it’s strong. I hated it. Smells like wank, and tastes like I would imagine wank to taste. Sorry not for me. Foul. Far too sweet and thick. Did not like it. azlondon (656), Fribourg, Switzerland Jul 1, 2008 Appearance: Dark brownish red. Good amount of light brown head. Lots when warmer.
Aroma: Malt and dark fruit. Bit of caramel and red wine(!).
Taste: Quite strong, warming. Dark fruits, vinous. Slightly bitter.
Info: 330ml bottle, 3/8-2007 Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia Jun 26, 2008 Sweet malt atone fruit aroma. Clear red brown colour with great head and lacing. Sweet malt flavour with lots of stone fruit. Smooth palate. Would have this again! ;-) phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 16, 2008 This delicious beer pours an attractive deep amber colour with a medium sized vanilla head. IT has an initial sweet malted taste which finishes softly with caramel undertones. bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA May 31, 2008 330 ml. bottle. Dark copper amber color with a substantial beige/tan head. It does a little ring lacing. Aroma is slightly sour dark fruit over dark roasted caramel. Thinnish body with coarse carbonation. Flavor is caramel, treacle, raisin, alcohol. There’s fair heat here. Seems to have woody notes. This finishes towards dry, but without much bitter. Still, it is something for a cold evening. Alcohol is a bit too evident, but it drinks well, though advisedly slowly.
