The body is thin and simple for a beer this size. Only a slght hint of alcohol. Soft dark fruit notes. Too sweet and one-dimensional. Less than the sum of its parts, and that’s due to lack of bottleconditioning. fiulijn (7420), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 9, 2003 Beautiful amber color; generous, creamy head. Intense aroma: malt, caramel, brown sugar, banana, orange peel. Very strong body, well bearing the alcohol content, warming. Round and malty, sweet in the front; orange peels and caramel, light liquorice. Would be perfect with some more fruitness (easier to find in the English Ales) and a more bitter final. Very sweet malty flavor with notes of yeast, prunes, raisins and caramel. Far to sweet for my taste. Saving the rest for aging.... argo0 (6982), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is medium sweet, balsamic vinagrette, some sour cherry, wood -- I sense trouble ahead. Taste is sweet and boozy, caramel, raisin, wood, some cherry. Medium-full body, some stickiness. Nice red-amber color with small foamy white head. Fresh hoppy aroma with some anise and herbs. Medium to full bodied, oily palate with warming alcohol. Sweetish with fruity hops. Light bitter hoppy aftertaste. Very nice balanced brew, almost more like English than Belgium Ale. harrisoni (6830), Ashford, Kent, England
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 20, 2008 Bottle from Dranken Geers. Reddish brown with thin beige head. Malty fruity aroma. I suppose it’s a bit like a quad, but tastes more of a cross between a brune and a European strong lager. The alcohol is too obvious. Aroma of fruit and dry malt is attractive. Bit unsubtle and not enough body and flavour to support the alcohol. Maria (6312), Thisted, Denmark
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Very dark amber and a nice golden head. The aroma is malty with notes of hops, citrus and a bit of alcohol. The flavour is very voluminous and powerful. First of all it’s sweet, but it also has notes of ripe stone fruits, roasted malt, candy sugar, a bit of alcohol and a touch of citrus. The bitterness is moderate, but OK. The grapefruit acidity, that I find in the Grimbergens is a minus in my mouth, so the rating is lower as it could have been for this otherwise nice beer.
