Aroma is mailky, creamy with toffee and vanilla. ALso sourish with notes of juniper berries and a bit vinous. Sourish flavor, vinous and a bit strong. Fruity from grapes. Quite mild finish and with alcohol well hidden. Different for being a dark belgian, but still good. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 30, 2004 Rated in Amsterdam. Tan small head, sparse lacing, no visible carbonation, mostly transparent, and a reddish brown hue. Aroma was malty, alcohol and fruity. Sweet, malty, vinuous and fruity flavor. Very appealing. Mouthfeel was vinous considering the abv of this beer which is one of my favorite beer styles. Medium bodied. Definitely worth trying if you like this beer style. The smell is sweet and slightly malty. Very sweet on the palate. Low fruitiness in the taste. Also malty but sweet-sour/bitter. Finishes very dry with a slight alcoholic tinge in the finish. Very good beer! RichardGretton (3165), Leicestershire, England

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 14, 2007 Very dark amber with a beige head. Sweet malty, spicy aroma rather like an alcoholic chocolate gateau: an absolutely wonderful introduction. Does any other beer have such a delectable aroma? The taste had to be a slight disappointment after that. It was almost cloyingly sweet with caramel, dark fruits and plums. The sharp bitterness nearly saved it. caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands

Certainly has a malty and dried fruits. This beer goes down very easy with a sweet and very distinct Grimbergen flavor. Very strong and a tad hot. I liked it, but I like the dubbel more. shrubber85 (3011), Wallhalben, Germany
