Bottle. Nutty black malt aroma, slightly burnt with roast and a touch of cocoa. Black body with a huge, uncontrollable tan / light brown head. Noisy, too. Taste is strongly burnt and roast, I’m expecting ash but finding instead a light sweetness, not quite artificial, and an eventually dry aftertaste of bitter nuts and carbonation. Watery body with light acidity. Some notes of cherry / wine. Dark and fun. This review seems to indicate I really like this, but it really didn’t do all that much for me.

4th in a series of ’color’-inspired beers at McGregor’s. This time we featured ’black.’ Very dark, black with brownish highlights. Tan foamy head. Chocolate aroma, coffee palate + hoppy notes at end, very good.

Bottle. Black pour with light brown head. Roasted malt, oats, and cola in the aroma. Mouthfeel is off with too much carbonation and a thin palate. Flavor is roasted malt, nuts, burnt malt, slightly sweet and cola-like. Overall, its not very good.

Smells of nice dark roasted malts, some coffee and chocolate with a little caramel. Pours a nice black with a very foamy off-white head. Very carbonated, instantly fills your mouth with bubbles when you take a sip. Tastes of roasted coffee malts with some nice chocolate hints to it. Very nice despite the best-by date being april of 20007.

Bottle from Epps. Pours dark blackish brown with a large khaki head. Aroma was roasted dark malt, dark choc, some coffee, and hints of molasses and nuts. Medium palate that gave a dark malty, rather dry flavor, with dark chocolate throughout, some coffee notes, and mild molasses and finishing hops.

Bottle. Opened with a loud "fizz" sound. Poured and found an tan head that was 4 inches high. Obviously this beer was over carbonated and it shows in my overall review. The aroma is light hops, coffee. Flavor is bitter chocolate, light hops and had the sensation of pop rocks on my tongue. If they can tone down on the carbonation this would be a pretty decent stout.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy to rocky light brown head and black color. Aroma is mild dark malt-some chocolate, husky. Taste is dark malt-coffee/chocolate/husky/chickory, husky, some hops. Finishes thin.

Bottled. Poured deep brown with a bunch of sediment in there and an explosive cap of tan head. The aroma picked up dry, rather mellow roasted semi-sweet chocolate along with some darker spice that I couldn’t place.. a touch of oaky sourness too. The flavor had extra-sweetened dry-roasted chocolates without too much more.. some toasted grains and caramel.. dry coffee bitterness all-around. Dry as advertised on the palate and overly-sweetened.. not bad.
