Not bad beer, but not an especially good one either. Bland. It starts out well with a dark brown pour, decent smoky aroma. Flavor is simple and not interesting, and mouthfeel is almost as thin as a pale. This was the first Gritty’s I’ve tried, and I’ll have to give them a mulligan on this one until I can try another.

Nov 20, 2008 pours a rich dark chocolate color. huge creamy head, short retention. nose consists of very light nose all i get is molasses. really a letdown, tastes of burnt coffee molasses and is very carbonated. one weak wussy stout

Nov 19, 2008 Huge dark beige, creamy head over nearly black beer. Very neutral nose, liquorice, molasses, smoked bark. Extremely dry taste, coffee grits, bark spices, charcoal, burnt. Background sweetness. Not bad in the matter of balance. Medium bodied at best, creamy texture. Pleasing taste, certainly for a light-meant stout.

Nov 2, 2008 For a stout this is pretty weak. It has a burnt malt scent and taste. This has quite a bit of carbonation in it for a stout. Not much flavor in it at all. Overall a pretty weak brew. Too bad, Gritty usually puts out some good stuff.

Sep 4, 2008 Pours dark brown with a thick brown head.
Aroma is roasted malts, charred, on the weak side.
Taste is roasted, some coffee, hops bitterness, malts and grains Does have some sweetness close to lactose. Beer leaves a dry mouthfeel overtaking most of the actual taste.

Aug 12, 2008 bottle in Stowe,VT. Not my style of stout at all. Black pour with an enormous brown head. Aromas are roasted malt and some chocolate. Flavor is dry, dry, dry. Almost a tart chcolate flavor. Bitter hops are present too. Not a favorite.
