MarkBarnes (242), Waterville, New York, USA Jan 24, 2008 Jan. 24, 2008; 22 oz. bomber. Commercial description is right on target. Dark amber color; thin white head w/ substantial lacing; faint aroma (dragged down the overall score). Roasted full-bodied malt flavor with toffee & spice; pleasant bitterness. Palate is steady & doesn’t disappoint. Quite satisfying overall. A really good effort from Gritty McDuff’s.
ChainGangGuy (1721), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jun 18, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, mahogany-hued body with a small, bubbly, white head.
Smell: A pretty wimpy aroma, I dare. Just a light hint of biscuity malts and a pinch of spices.
Taste: Biscuity, light toasty caramel maltiness, though, overall, it’s kinda light. Slight sweetness. Faint fruitiness. Mild spiciness, mild bitterness. Clean, dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Nothing bad, but I could definitely stand a bit more -- more of everything. Even if I get my ass thrown onto Santa’s Naughty List I just had to speak my mind about it. Perhaps the oil crunch is hitting us, even Jolly Old Saint Nick, in ways we never could have imagined, but I have a sneaky suspicion he’s holding back. MrManning (1458), London, Ontario, Canada Jun 9, 2008 Bottle courtesy of HogtownHarry-Pours deep amber, with a slight orange haze to it. Head is off white and frothy. The nose is of caramel, bread crust, pit fruit, some milk chocolate. Taste is sweet fruity caramel, prune and plum with milk chocolate and toasty, doughy flavours. Finishes sweet but balanced by good hops bitterness. A good sipper. Thanks again Harry! kp (6300), Woodstock, Georgia, USA May 25, 2008 Date: 05/10/2008
Shag (1811), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA May 18, 2008 This one poured a dark amber color. The aroma is full of spices and also some chocolate, caramel, and mint. The flavor is malty with some chocolate and caramel in there. A definite spice presence in this one. Overall a pretty good beer. CaptainCougar (4687), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 10, 2008 Pours a transparent copper amber with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of lightly toasted caramel malt and some piny English hops. Body starts with light caramel malty sweetness, a touch of light fruits and some earthy bittering hops before a slightly citrusy bittersweet finish. An ok ESB.
