| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Dec 2, 2007 Bottle: This "brown" ale has a golden sheen to it, with a 1/4-inch head of foam. The aroma is full-on caramel malt, almost as thick and syrupy as melted caramel candies. Same for the drink ... thickly warmed caramel, butterscotch, perhaps a hint of hazelnuts. For having a stab at so many thick flavors, this is a bit thin in body. (#3232, 12/2/2007) ridgeman (37), Connecticut, USA

| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Aug 10, 2007 On draft, at brewpub, Portland. Very light clear brown body, more like a dark copper really, with minimal to no head and zero visible carbonation. Light nutty aroma, but mostly just a grainy husky note. Thin and watery husky grain flavor with minimal nuttiness. Very short finish and minimal bitterness. Mouthfeel is weak and watery with soft carbonation. Overall, very thin and boring. | 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Apr 9, 2007 Bottle. Labelled ’Best Brown Ale’. Yikes, this is rated low! Pours a clear, deep amber with an average size diminishing off-white head. Aroma is mild and metallic, not a good start, along with some caramel malt and maybe some nuts -- it’s hard to describe something you can barely smell. Flavour pretty much follows the aroma but holy shit is it ever watery! I’m giving it a 4 for flavour and that’s generous cause there’s almost no flavour at all. My wife who doesn’t drink beer had a sip before I could warn her and she said "this is like drinking water?!". Ridiculous. Thin bodied as well. What a friggin’ useless beer. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Mar 10, 2007 Aggressively carbonated English brown, with licorice aroma and powerful head. On the moderately malty side, drinkable but sour finish gets tiring and not complex. A touch of nuttiness.
