Commercial Description:
We celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a Smoked Porter, which is a uniquely Irish-American beer style. In order to prepare for this beer, we start by asking Sam and Gerry Brooke over at Portland Coffee Roasting Co. to help us "smoke" the grains. They do this by burning a bunch of coffee beans in their roaster. We then add our grains to these beans and mix them together in a large pot! The smoke given off by the coffee beans is captured by the grains. We then mill those grains right into our mash-tun! The result is a dark, smokey brew with a delicious hint of coffee!

dark ruby red, good tan head, light lace, slightly sweet chocolate malt aroma, rich chocolate malt flavor, like a melted hearshy’s bar in a glass, just a slight hint of sweetness in the finish that turns to malt bitterness as it warms

Holy crap, I finally found it! On tap in Portland...when the guy said they had a porter i was puzzled and i couldn’t remember ever having it. Turns out I hadn’t. This beer is actually really a yummy porter. Pours a dark brown with hints of red. Very smokey, malty, and just delicous. Nice full body and coffee flavors. Get this beer if you see it at grittys!

[on tap at brewery] Dark red-brown with a tan ring and wisps. Sweet coffee aroma. Smokey and sour malt flavour with some dark malt bitterness combined to make a flavour that I really didn’t like that much. Medium body and medium carbonation.

On cask NERAX ’04: Clear ruby color, roasted coffee and chocolate notes. Full bodied, starts off slightly sweet and ends a bit sweeter. Tasted a bit stale, but was good anyway.
