Commercial Description:
VSA is an Extra Special golden ale that’s light in color but full-bodied, with a snappy hop finish. A bit of extra time in the conditioning tank rounds out and mellows the ale.

Golden colour. Light caramel, toasty hop and diacetyl. Crisp, but watery golden ale with that definitive Ringwood diacetyl signature. Kind of boring.

(12oz bottle, thanks wilkie) Sparkling apple juice body topped by small off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, herbal/grassy, light bread. Taste is medium sweet, grassy/herbal, light apricot, biscuit. Light body, some crispness. Quite drinkable.

Bottle: Pours a clear dark golden with a thin, spotty white head. Big, earthy floral bitter English hoppy aroma has a hint of pale maltiness. Body starts very dry, and bitter with big earthy, grassy hoppy character toward a similar finish. Could use a little more sweetness for balance.

Pours gold with a thin white head. Smells breaddy with some mild hop notes. Taste of caramel and some bittering hops but otherwise watery and disappointing.

12 oz bottle. Pale amber beer with an off-white head. Soft pale malt aroma with some light earthiness. A little bit doughy and lightly tobaccoish. Soft soft citric bitterness on the back. A nice simple golden ale.

May 2005, on draught at Gritty McDuffs (Portland) with the spastic and fantastic ClarkVV. Very light amber, clear with no head to worry about...clean, sweet honey and a touch of lemon in the nose...light but reasonable body, very weak on the malt but with a noticeable albeit subdued piney hop presence...watery. Basically, nothing.

Bottle: Orange-yellow brew with a big cauldron on top. Highly carbonated. Aroma is sweet-bready, lightly citrusy. The drink is even more bready, even vaguely yeasty, with a big cookie dough aspect and a tight finish at the end. I really like beers like this, although clearly they are not popular amongst the Ratebeer masses ... anything vaguely yellowy is at a disadvantage here. (#3203, 11/14/2007)
