oh6gdx (6460), Vaasa, Finland Dec 12, 2007 Bottled. Slightly hazy golden colour with huge foamy head. Aroma is earth, herbs and some mild acidic fruits. Flavour is earth, spices, yeast and some mild fruityness. Aftertaste is just wood and quite much yeast. MiP (6337), Flensburg, Germany Feb 27, 2008 Bottle, 8%. Rough aroma, hint of vegetable. Cloudy copper colour. Nice, stable white head. The flavour is tart. Ending with OK, rough bitterness. Very high carbonation, but good mouthfeel. Refreshing with its citricness and quite drinkable in spite of its ABV. bierkoning (5077), La Tropica, Netherlands Jul 10, 2006 Golden color, hazy. Citrus and cream in the aroma. Honey sweet flavor with citrus and hints of sour cream. This abbey tripel is an easy drinker, with a taste that will suit many. Without too much depth, I’m afraid. Still worth a try. Bov (4744), Bienne, Switzerland Oct 1, 2007 from crackedkettle.com - cloudy honeyish colour under a foamy white head formed of big bubbles; aroma of cellar and old apples, some esters; a fair tart acidity balances the sweetness; full-bodied; decent dry bitter and effervescent finish with more fruity and spicy notes JorisPPattyn (4642), Antwerpen, Belgium Oct 13, 2006 Orange-gold with good carbonation, under a stable head that seems frozen whilst collapsing. All yeast collected on the bottom. Sweetish nose, with obvious candy sugar and - AFAIC - Van Steenberge yeast; there’s also something salty like peeled shrimp. Dry to sweetish taste, the dryness crying out the massive use of candi sugar, the sweetness is the alcohol following seamlessly. A bit flowery, and a slight pineapple flavour in the finish. Warming up, fruity-citrussy esters more on the front, and a human sweat aroma. Dry, alcoholic, medium bodied. I can’t find Duvel very exciting. This is a boring Duvel, by Van Steenberge, I bet.
