Commercial Description:
Grottenbier Flemish Ale is a unique ale produced by one of the great Flanders breweries. Pale golden in color with a white, dense foam and a flavor that is soft, creamy and slightly herbal. Aging will reveal new layers of flavor, but Grottenbier Flemish Ale is eminently drinkable anytime! A unique Belgian classic from the mind of Pierre Celis.

750ml bottle. Pours a rocky, light-brown, lasting head with a slightly hazy, particulate laden, amber body. Clumpy lacing. Heavy caramel, cereal, toffee and nutty aroma with some light herbal hops. Some yeasty spiciness. There’s a little bit of cherry and some misc. dark fruit. Medium bodied with a somewhat creamy texture and average carbonation.

Corked and caged. Ruby pour with a hint of brown seeping in, patchy sudsy tan head. Nose very airy with dusty yeast - malty, but there’s not much here. A little bit of kick in the taste, peppercorn in with vomity caramel and a little spice. Herbal notes, dry aftertaste. Seems like a hint of candi sugar under the light chocolate. Medium body. Classy enough.

Crushed with Jakebra. Spicy and yeasty nose is pretty pleasant. Flavor is very smooth with a nice mouthfeel. Very drinkable and nice brew.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of fruit, pears, yeast, slight lemon, light pepper, slight spices, slight coriander, and some dust. Poured golden/yellow in color with a large, frothy, white head that diminished but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of small and medium-sized particles throughout. Flavor is lightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of yeast, pale malts, light spices, light pepper, slight pear, slight hops, and a hint of lemon. Light to medium body. Tingly, then dry texture. Lively carbonation. Slightly sweet, yeasty, finish is moderately dry.

[Bottle] Pours a clear gold with a massive, meringue-like white head that leaves incredible lacing. Aroma is sweet candi sugar and malts, some floral and herbal aromas, and plenty of clove from the yeast. Flavor is very herbal, some anise and mint are the prominent ones, biscuity malt, and a light, smooth finish.

Pale golden colored beer that started with a thick dense head of foam. Some alcoholic warmth but not too much. Starts sweet and finishes with some herbal qualities.

Labeled as "Pierre Celis Signature Selection" which I happened to stumble across at an unplanned stop. No idea of this beer’s age, but I feel it’s sat around long enough to develop a pleasant amount of complexity. To be honest this came across like a big bottle of tamed Orval, fairly funky with a touch of brett, dry and nicely intriguing. Golden, straw color with intense carbonation and a billowing, rocky white head that leaves thick, blanketing lacing. Peppery hops, spicy with funky fruits and must. You can smell the dryness and I swear it is very familiar to a 1 year Orval. Light and dry mouth feel with a mild tartness and a rather hot finish. Fruity peach and orange flavors coupled with honey. Spicy hops, biscuits and cream soda. Earthy with a touch of dried herbs. Tart, sweet and slightly bretty.
