Commercial Description:
Grottenbier Flemish Ale is a unique ale produced by one of the great Flanders breweries. Pale golden in color with a white, dense foam and a flavor that is soft, creamy and slightly herbal. Aging will reveal new layers of flavor, but Grottenbier Flemish Ale is eminently drinkable anytime! A unique Belgian classic from the mind of Pierre Celis.

Bottle. Orange label. "Flemish Ale." Sweet and floral aroma. Some orange peel and a touch of sour yeast as well. Pours murky orange with a thin white head. Quite dry on the palate with the yeast at the forefront. Slightly fruity with some wheat sweetness and a hint of spice. Medium bodied. Lively carbonation. Finishes with a kick of dry spicy and sour yeast.

Courtesy boboski. Pours a cloudy light orange, with a small white head. Smells of Belgian yeast and slightly acidic fruits, with a hint of sourness. Very malty and sweet smelling. The flavor is much the same. The malts and fruits seem to blend together nicely, but this wasnt very sour to be called a flemish ale. Tasted more like a Belgian tripel if you ask me. Certainly misleading name. The flavor is big on the yeast characters, a little bit of tartness and acidity, but its barely there. Still enjoyable, but needs to be labeled a tripel in my opinion.

Bottle… Murky yellow ale with a small, creamy, white head. Excellent retention. Herbal, floral aroma with notes of sassafras and lavender. Lightly acidic and grainy as well. Perfectly balanced flavors of pale malt sweetness, acidic tanginess and hop bitterness. Herbal and a tad salty. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Herbal, lightly bitter, salty finish. My sample was courtesy of boboski

Courtesy boboski. Cloudy straw color with a thin broken white head. Sweetish herbal/floral aromas, some sour malt and yeast characters also. Medium-bodied. The taste is not very sour and has a lot of tripel characteristics. The finish was moderately dry and had a little spice to it. Interesting.

Thanks Boboski! Pours a hazy golden color. Aroma is slightly tart and floral, touch of sour citrus. Flavor is crisp and seems a touched spiced. Interesting.
