Commercial Description:
O.G. 1.042. 18 IBU’s. Named after America's greatest brewing guru Captain Frederick Pabst. This beer simple blend of malt and hops brings to the palate what a true American Lager strives for; crisp, clean and refreshing finishing with a hint of hop flavor.

On tap at the brewpub 7/31/09: Pours a clear pale golden with a thin, clingy-lacing white head. Aroma of crisp noble hops and pale malt with some graininess. Starts light with a faint hint of sweetness and some grainy malt before a drier bitter finish. Pretty refreshing and drinkable, but nothing too exciting.

11/16/2007: Grumpty Troll Captain Fred is transparent with a golden straw color, mild carbonation, and no head. Its aroma and flavor are fairly typical and average. It has a decent maltiness and is refreshing, but other than that, this pale ale is nothing special.

Sample (draught) at the Grumpy Troll Brewery, Restaurant and Pizzeria in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. Rating #18 for this beer.

On tap at the brewpub, pours clear with minimal head, I’d give this one a meh. It’s the obligatory blonde/light ale, corny/Genny Light-esque taste, brewed by any brewpub to appease the masses. Not reflective of the rest of the brewery’s selections.

Mild grain aroma, somehow you get the sense that there will be sweetness in the taste, sure enough ,flavor has a grain malt tasting, with a little sugary sweetness,it does have that light tartness to it,like some wheat was used. I would not describe this a crisp and clean, had more ale like characteristics. No off tastes, nice enough

Hazy pale gold with a short-lived white head. Aroma of citrus and grain. Flavor has a lot of lemon in it, and some husky grains. Initially, there was a bit of cardboard to it, but this vanished as the beer opened up. Thin to medium body. Refreshing.

A rather boring style to put on tap but that’s just my opinion. Pours a clear golden colour with a little white head. Very malty, and a bit sour. Corn, lemon and grass on the palate. Aroma is of grains and lemon.

On tap at the Grumpy Troll Brew Pub. Poured a light to medium yellow color with a small sized white head. Aromas of grass, grains, and some corn. Tastes follow suit.
