Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jan 24, 2009 On tap at Grumpy Troll. Poured clear, deep amber with a short cap of beige head. The aroma picked up nutty notes and caramel sweetness accented by a touch of tobacco.. there was an oddly-placed sour presence in there too. The flavor had toasty caramel and nutty notes throughout with a bit of leafy bitterness at the edges.. light sourness and herbal bitterness on the finish.. well-balanced and tasty. Lighter-bodied and somewhat tacky at times on the palate.. OK flow and a decent brew overall. noncaloric (601), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 23, 2009 Very dark brown pour. A thin off white head quickly dissipates, but leaves a modest lacing. Rather faint nutty malt aroma. Flavor is slightly caramelized malt, somewhere between brown sugar and cream soda. A little nutty bitterness with a floral hop character. Delightfully smooth drinking, pleasantly effervescent in the mouth, but rather more felt than tasted. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Dec 14, 2008 On draught at the brewpub in downtown Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. Pours a clear dark copper amber brew with a fast dissolving off white head that dissipates to a thin ring and thin off-white ring. Aroma of toasted caramel malt, some roasted nute, flowery hops and a touch of brown sugar. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of toasted dark caramel malts, roasted nuts and flowery hops. Finish has a good balance of flowery hops and caramel malt aftertaste with a touch of chocolate.
