Commercial Description:
"Gruut" is an ancient Flemish coin. In medieval Ghent, brewers used Gruuts to pay taxes on the richness of their brew. Gentse Stadsbrouwerij has revived this ancient tradition with Gruut Amber Ale. Enjoy it’s rich taste, deep copper color, and smooth-drink-ability.

Savannah, Ga. Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a nice medium copper with a light but long lasting white head. Pleasant aroma of molasses, brown sugar and some faint fruit. Falvor has some of the same accents with the brown sugar notes most prominent. Hints of apples in the finish. Flavors are quite muted but an enjoyable little Belgian. Sticky enough mouthfeel.

33 cl. Clear copper with a lasting cap of cream leaving spots of drippy lace. Aroma of apples and brown sugar. Front of caramel, apple and butterscotch is balanced by wood and alcohol flavors that become a bit harsh by the finish. Near-medium body is tingly with carbonation and dryish. Tastes more like a British ale, and isn’t bad except for the rough finish.

Blah. This beer is a mess. Aroma was very weak. Smelled like stale ginger ale. Pour was absolutely beautiful. Deep rich amber with a 2 finger off white head. Taste was stale caramel and a hint of roasted malt. Very thin and watery. Carbonation left the beer halfway through and turned into a flat amber ale.

Pours a dark ruby red/ amber color with a thin foamy tan head. Earthy spicy aroma with hints of candi sugar and belgian yeast. Soft carbonation up front followed by smooth creamy center. Candi suagr and belgian yeast provide it with a sweetness. Dry earthy hop finish.

11.2 ounce bottle from Once Upon a Vine in Richmond. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a medium head. Aroma of grain, stone fruits and nuts. Taste is grain, caramel, nuts and a muted fruity note. Medium bodied. Not nearly as good as the wit, sadly.
