Commercial Description:
"Gruut" is an ancient Flemish coin. In medieval Ghent, brewers used Gruuts to pay taxes on the richness of their brew. Gentse Stadsbrouwerij has revived this tradition with Gruut Wit Beer. Enjoy it’s natural cloudiness, golden color, and refreshing finish.

Bottle. Strong coriander with some overly sweet notes in the nose (and, unfortunately, some corn), light yeast and otherwise pale malts in this pale yellow beer, hazed with a rich and jiggling creamy white head. Taste is mellow, rounded, a little bit of tang but otherwise smooth wheat and a welcoming yeast slurry. Very faint phenols. Medium body a bit watery at time, with soft and enduring carbonation. Very gentle, inoffensive take.

Bottle shared by nuplastikk on 6/28/08: Pours a cloudy pale golden with a stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly biscuity pale malt and mild coriander and orange zest spice. Smooth and lightly sweet with good spice balance and a touch of doughy yeast. A pretty good witbier.

Pours a slightly hazy, pale gold with airy white head. Aroma of lemon syrup (sprite-like), banana, and wheat. Flavor is wheat, banana. The mouthfeel is soft and a bit fluffy, far and away the strong point of the beer. Sweet finish. No bitterness at all. It’s a bit simplistic overall but pretty refreshing.

Bottle. Light yellow and hazy, as you’d expect. Vague lemon peel aroma. Drinks with barely a whisper of citrus fruit, and a gentle kiss of herbal spice. Quite well put together, very light brew. (#3680, 9/20/2009)

Bottle 33cl. @ home.
Unclear hazy light to medium yellow color with a average to large, frothy, excellent lacing, fully lasting, white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, wheat, citrus, moderate to light heavy lemon. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet, light acidic and moderate shell bitter with a long to average duration. fresh and easy as a spring beer. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. Feels a bit thin in the mouth [20090315]

33cl bottle. Pours hazy yellow, white head. Aroma is a yeast dough, lemon zest, and some coriander. Taste is dry, wheat, dough, some clove spice. Finish seems to be a little off centered. Could use some balance, bitterness, or maybe a bit more character.

Bottle from Ron’s. Pours hazy gold with white head and clingy lacing. Nose is limey citrus, mild spicy yeasty. Tastes citric, with lime, some spicy yeasty notes, and some floral hoppy notes. Not well balanced.
