Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout

Nice, full body, but still muted in flavour profile. A bit of coffee and that guinness taste. Not bad, but nothing to seek out.

Milestones don’t make this beer any better (or at least elevate into ’interesting’ status). Very standard stout to my tastes with some grain and faint roast. Finishes dry.

On tap this beer is much more a good stout then the average Guinness I have tried. I enjoyed it more of a thick deeper malt taste. The normal stout head that is present in their other product, just much better.

Bottle from the local. No light is escaping this guy, pours a deep brown/black with a cream colored head. Aroma wasn’t very pronounced but I picked up notes of roast malt and nuts. The flavor is richer and deeper than Guinness Draught; the roasted malts stick out more and it doesn’t seem as smooth. Still tasty and enjoyable nonetheless.

This particular review is on the Guinness 250th Anniversary Stout (Extra Stout in a pretty bottle [Long Live Arthur Guinness]). What does it look like? It looks like fucking motor oil with a creamy, off-white head. That’s about all I can say about it. I love it. Up against the light, you see a slight caramel color that shines through...but it’s still black as Satan’s heart. Upon smelling it, there is a very apparent scent of hops and the Irish roasted barley that is used in the brewing process. The smell seems very heavy; a sign of things to come. At the beginning of the taste, it seems pretty carbonated which is pretty misleading by the thick appearance of the brew. It also seems slightly sweet. As the taste progresses, it moves to a hoppy flavor with a hint of barley and it finishes off as you swallow it with more hops and the taste of alcohol. The texture is a little disappointing though. It’s pretty flat and does not have a whole lot of body. The progression of flavors and textures isn’t very complex but I do enjoy the nice kick at the end from the combination of the hops and alcohol.

bottle, pours deep black/brown with medium head with large bubbles and heavy carbonation, clean aroma with light roasted malt noted, no bread/hop notes, tastes crisp/clean up front with roasted finish, clean palate with slight hint of sweet malt, needs nitro :)

This Guinness Brew smells and appears to be excactly like a regular (loosely used term) stout, but the flavor sure is different. It is much richer, with more roasted malt flavor. There is a deeper flavor than the original, it is less sweet, even though you still smell a sweet aroma.

Reviewed 7/27/2009 (bottle): Pours an extremely dark reddish brown colored body, with an average tan-white colored head, diminishing. Roasted, nutty aroma. Some coffee, dark roasted coffee aroma. But not too strong, not too layered. Somewhat creamy body, with a sweet roasted aftertaste. Some chocolate notes too. A little dusty/dry, but pretty tasty. Not much in the way of complex flavor, simple.
