Pours almost black, like the draught, but with dark ruby highlights and creamy tan head. Nose has plenty of roasted malt as well as notes of aniseed and bitter dark chocolate. Flavour is much the same but with a creamy edge. Mouthfeel is smooth and dry, and is very similar to the regular bottled Guinness. Not bad but not very different either. cheapdark (2017), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 15, 2009 Overall this provided a decent beer experience. From a 11.2 oz bottle. Not much smell to speak of but there is some tinny roasty-ness there. Barely any head., but nice and dark, the way I like it to look. Creamy biting small bubble fizz but less than average for a good tingle. Much more carbonation than those nitro brews. Darker roasty flavors with some hints of burnt wet campfire wood. Ropey at times. Finish is a mixed dark beer linger that is reminicent of scwartzbeer, dark american lager and mild stout all in one. crazyvin (1252), New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 14, 2009 from a bottle poured a thin looking black hue with a light tan head. Aroma had mostly roasted malt notes, but some bread like notes. Flavor was somewhat bitter, like burnt coffee. A little touch of sweetness, but not enough. Finish was dry. arkurzynski (97), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 14, 2009 Pours dark brown with frothy head that settles, Aroma of roasted malts with a hint of sweetness. Light roasted malt flavor, again with some sweetness. Some biscuit-like flavor. A little bit of a sour aftertaste. An offering that I have no problem drinking, but was expecting a bit more. A little light on flavor and mouthfeel. jameswolfe (142), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 12, 2009 What the heck.....it looks like St. James wants to celebrate this occasion by making a beer that is inferior to the original. This is really dissapointing. Luckily I wont be around for the 500th. rader58 (180), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 11, 2009 Pours a dark brown. Aroma of roasted grain and slight molasses. Slight malty taste with hints of grain, coffee and molasses. Well balanced and easy drinking. BückDich (4848), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 10, 2009 Bottle: Dark brown, blackish, light tan head and no lacing. The nose is lightly roasty with some acidic malts. Light and thin. The flavor is thin too, tastes undercarbonated and thin. Like guinness but only weaker. Creamy mouthfeel though. No better way to celebrate a monumental anniversary than with a mediocre beer. ljay6880 (142), , Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 10, 2009 12 oz bottle served in a clear pint glass. Pour was dark cola with 4 fingers of thick cream colored head. Nose is light roasted malts, light yeast, and light earth. Taste is somewhat bland, but much on par with the smell. Not much to say, I was a bit disappointed in this one actually. While not bad, just not up to par with many of the stouts I have tried.
