440 mL Nitro Can specifically labeled "draught". Anyone who has seen the Guinness commercial will know the real thing holds true to its advertised image. The glass looks like it’s getting filled with chocolate milk shake during the pour until the extra fine carbonation settles up into a beautiful creamy off-white head that clings thickly to the sides of the glass as it is sipped, hiding the surface from the top of the glass all the way to the end; the ultimate example of beauty in beer. Aroma is toasted malt and grains with a hint of coffee, a slight syrupiness to it and a slight tang that is fitting to a dark beer. The flavor (and a full flavor at that) is toasted malt with an aftertaste that is like good black coffee, yet not too overpowering. Smooth in the mouth, it holds to the tongue like a firm but velvet hand. Not a complicated beer but a benchmark for those who like dark beers with taste and character. A toast to my Irish ancestry. Those Irishers sure can make good beer! G for Goddess, G for Guinness

25cl from tap in de Backdoor @ Ghent coffee black with strong foam, nice roasted malt taste tasted light, a bit waterish . Hard to compare with other stouts and beers. It is what it is. You can drink this beer all night long.

Appearance: deep brown to black; fairly clear; nice head Aroma: light aromas of coffee and barley; fairly typical of style, just the watered down version Flavor: Tantamount to the aroma, good style typicity but watered down version; I consider this a light beer in the stout category; good dry-coffee finish, but lacks complexity

After starting drinking real stouts, this one have really lost its charm. Watery feel, A distinct coffe aroma. Big white head who stays hangs on the glass wall until you’ve drank up.

Its the classic Guinness. You know how it pours, you know the aroma. It’s taste is thin and has that mild burnt malt taste, clean finish. Its tradition, little more than that though.

Sweet roasted malt and dark brown bread in aroma. Black with very soft beige head. Mild roasted malt with just a hint of black coffee. Mild mouthfeel.

Harbour Bar, Portrush, Northern Ireland. I remember drinking a pint of Guinness 20 years ago in Dublin and thinking it was the most wonderful thing to have ever passed my lips. Having guzzled vats of the stuff over the years, I held the belief for a long time that the Guinness you got in Ireland was far superior than what was served up in England, leaving much better lace and having a wonderfully creamy virtually white head. Now, however after drinking quite a bit of it (due to the almost complete dearth of anything else drinkable) in the Republic and Ulster in the last week or so I’m not entirely sure there is a big difference any more. A good pint of Guinness can still be a wonderful thing, but as time goes by it seems to be an ever more elusive thing sadly due to a palpable dip in quality.
