badgerben (3070), Blaine, Minnesota, USA May 2, 2003 Typical black Guinness, smells like it too. Not quite as thick a head. Hmmm... this is turning out to be a disappointing 100th beer on my list. It's much more plain than Guinness Draught. There's more of a slight wood flavor, the commercial description says oak. Some bland coffee hints too. Watery as well. Just weird, it misses that nice creaminess of the draught. So sad... oh well, happy 100 to me!
DrDavid (157), , Vermont, USA Aug 28, 2008 (Bottle). Malt and coffee aroma. Black with brown head. Mouthfeel is pleasingly full. However, the flavor balance, at least to me, leaves something to be desired. There is roastiness and a touch of coffee and malt....but nothing seems to work together. Then, there’s a rather weird bitterish finish that jars instead of satisfies. EricE (225), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Aug 28, 2008 Opaque black pour with a tan head - nice and thick fluffy. Malty aroma with some chocolate and caramel. Nice bitter malty flavor with molasses and a creamy coffee flavor. A bit watery, but overall a good beer. A classic! cloudstrife (25), Rochester, New York, USA Aug 26, 2008 12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Couldnt pin point any unique aroma that differed from the Guinness Draught, which was malt and coffee in scent. The appearance is darker and the head was more tannish in color, but it did not stick around as long as with the nitro-can. Flavor was better than the draught, very nice roasted malt flavor. Overall it is a very good beer, just still surprised its only 5%! I think I need to try this on tap to re-evaluate and get a better impression. BlockBrew (72), West Lafayette, Indiana, USA Aug 21, 2008 Black with fluffy tan head which sticks around for most of the glass. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Flavor is of bitter coffee with hops and roasted malt at the finish bullishjim (4), Rochester, New York, USA does not count Aug 20, 2008 Very dark with light brown head. Pleasant, slightly sweet aroma. Less smooth and more dry than Guinness Draught with more carbonation and a less creamy aftertaste. One of those beers where I enjoy the second more than the first.
