CheersMate1 (761), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 5, 2009 Picked up at the local corner store, and I have no idea as to why. Nice black body, but nothing special; poured rather thin. Fairly pungent beer with roast and molasses. Syrupy aroma as well; decent aroma. As expected...watered down stout with a surprisingly nice roast flavor. Slight bittering hop at the end, but other than that nothing really going for this beer in terms of depth. I never have been a Guinness fan and I never will. italianjohn (337), Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 4, 2009 Black pour tan head lots of lacing roasted malt aroma... nutty chocolate roasted malt taste with a light bitter finish its ok stuff better on tap of course zizzybalubba (334), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA Oct 30, 2009 650 mL bottle from Total Wine in Chesapeake, VA. Cola-like pour. Sweet aroma but nothing really distinctive (honestly, it smells much like cola). Syrupy sweet taste and not roasty at all. This is really not representative of a stout. I haven’t had this in a long time but something tells me it will be quite a while before I willingly try it again. Sledutah (19), Utah, USA Oct 22, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours dark with a light brown head, not much of a lace. Aroma has a nice hoppy floral smell. Taste has a bitter flavor with a nice amount of hops to balance the malt. Overall a very nice beer. williamherbert (420), Syracuse, New York, USA Oct 17, 2009 Pours the sheets of cascading beer falling downward for which the brand is famous. Once poured, has a dark brown, nearly black appearance; a slice of light brown head. Iconic.
Nutty and roasted smell, with a biscuity sweetness, like shortbread. Really unlike any other stout in the nose. Roasted and dry but a tad sweet as well. Amazing.
Smoky flavor across a roasted, nutty base. Flavor fades part of the way in, sweeter but still smoky. The smokyness really rules here. It’s a smoked porter more than a stout.
Feels creamy and foamy; thick as chocolate milk. A unique smoky, creamy porter. Not the best beer in the world as some claim, but a darn good one. f351c4v (404), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 16, 2009 Bottle from Wegman’s. Pours a very dark brown color with a giant tan head; very nice. Malty aroma with some licorice notes. Coffee, complete with coffee ground bitterness, and toffee are the major players in this medium bodied brew. Breaking out the classics recently... good! bulldogops (153), Alberta, Canada Oct 14, 2009 Bottle 341mL, 5%. Dark, black pour is always weird out of a bottle, always seem to get a wicked amount of foam. Aroma is very much roasted barley, and malt. Taste is a hint of coffee, and the roasted grain. Thick, frothy, and a little drier than Guinness draught, but still quite rich in flavour. Niko100 (76), New York, USA Oct 14, 2009 Rich dark color; Heavy creamy body; Aroma of roasted malt & dry fruit; Flavor of roasted malt, bitter hops, caramel and even some chocolate; Nothing too complex; Really good for what it is; Not sure yet which is better though, the extra stout or the draught.
