Draught at an Irish restaurant that says they fly their kegs in from Ireland. Poured black with creamy tan head, built into a traditional pint. Aroma of roast malt, fresh barley toast and molasses. Creamy body, with more malt, molasses and a bit of coffee. Malty finish, with the hop edge and touch of chocolate. Light enough for a session beer. Earlier Rating: 8/25/2007 Total Score: 3.9 Bottle. Poured black with thick tan head. Aroma of malt and some bread. Flavour, bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and malt. Lasting finish with more coffee. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2009 Bottle. A very dark mahogany pour with a big and creamy dark khaki head that leaves lacing down the side of the glass. Some roasty maltiness and slight hints of citrus in the predominantly sour aroma. Goes down thin to medium-bodied with a good deal of carbonation. Definitely leans more toward a porter than a stout. Roasty malts and a toasty nuttiness start things off taste-wise. Some definite semi-sweet chocolate and black coffee in there too. Sour lemons and bitter grapefruits at the end. Fairly drying finish. bradlyc77 (226), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 17, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown/black. Aroma is roasted malt. Mouthfeel is fizzy and prickly on the tongue. Taste is roasty with some citrus/apricot tang, chocolate, seems to have some astringency from roasted malt. Hops level is moderate-high. Just ok. rustychiles (1049), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Pours a deep brown almost black with a large soapy head that leaves a ton of sticky lacing down the side of my glass. Aroma is malts, chocolate, barley and some sourness. Flavor is sour, bitter malts, roast, cocoa, coffee, barley, grains. Quite dry, but easy to drink. Bitter dry finish. Much better than nitro guinness, but not nearly as robust as the foriegn extra. mpersinger (183), , California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 16, 2009 From bottle pours somewhat transluscent black with ruby halo and beige suds. Low aroma of malts and a tinge sour, with both characteristics more noticeable in flavor that is dominated by coffee and specialty malt notes. Thin body and somewhat watery finish. jimmay (204), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 15, 2009 On tap. Pours almost black, with a hint of red, with nice thick capuccino coloured head, which leaves nice lacing. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt. Pretty good stuff, considering it’s a Labatt brewed product LtDan (499), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA
| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/20 | Mar 14, 2009 Appearance: Pours a dark brown with a picture perfect foamy head. As opposed to the "draught" offering, this head is more sudsy than creamy.
Aroma: Bready, twangy malts are coming out of the foamy cap.
Taste: Roasted bitter malts, a bit of bitter metallic hops. Almost comes across like a dark dutch lager??
Mouthfeel: Heavy, but not really thick.
Overall: This beer is nothing like it’s counter part. It is rather hoppy, has a almost skunky twang, and has a completely different mouthfeel. Considering all the various lore I read online about who brews this beer, and in what country, God only knows how far this beer has traveled to get to my local Whole Foods, and what the bottle has been through.
