But this is a true stick to its roots beer. Great dark color, with a dark flavor, slight coffee flavor. With a nice brown head. Bottle. Merrill (74), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 20, 2009 I wasn’t sure whether to rate this here as the bottle says "Brewed and bottled by Guinness Brewing Company New Brunswick, Canada. it’s the same "little brown bottle I’ve always seen in the US, but it doesn’t look like any of the pics here.Very dark, near black, rich tan head, light aroma of roasted malt with slight vinegar and peat, flavor of sour medium body malt with strong bitter finish. I’ve been drinking this all my life and think of it as the first craft brew - where do you think DFH will be in 200 years. This beer is definately different than draft from a tap! Only very well used and maintained taps taste better and I won’t even rate the swill that they label as "draft" in those black bottles and cans! But the little brown bottle is the elixer of life. I can quickly rattle off ten stouts I like better than G. Extra, but all of them taste somewhat similar to one another and none of them taste any thing like the original dry stout from Eire! jkaiser (220), Orlando, Florida, USA

Maybe that’s why! Typical lasting, albeit thinner head compared to its draught counterpart. All the same flavors, coffee/roasted grain, caramel, and freshlyt crushed grain aromas, biscuity, malts with a hint of diacetyl. Typical Guinness "tang" , but in both flavor and aroma, there is a greater hop presence whereas it is pretty well absent (IMHO) in the draught version. Always solid, and one of my first loves! trav2525 (2), Fairport, New York, USA does not count | 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 4/20 | Jan 15, 2009 WOW I love Guinness draught so tried this. Not at all what i expected. The aroma really reminded me of Labatt Blue with a hint and i mean a hint of guinness. That kinda ruined it for me being from NY i had my fill of Blue and Blue light in college. OD40oz (600), Box Elder, South Dakota, USA

Poured a nice black with a decent sized foamy, beige head. Malty, coffee smell. This didn’t seem as chocolatey or as dry as the draught which I like better. verymerrymonk (257), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 10, 2009 Bottle pours a near black body with a healthy tan head. Roasted coffee is the dominant characteristic, maybe some raisin and hop bitterness as well. altonbrownd (1898), Amsterdam, Netherlands

Dark colour, nice head. Standard Guinness with distinctive wheat and coffee notes. Lovely, as usual, although on tap is still much better.
