Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

Looks is very black and a pretty good beige colored head. Smell is malts, coffee, very roasty, and maybe some chocolate. Taste is dry, little bitter, malts, and coffee. A fall back drink when you can find nothing else, but quickly losing it appeal to me. Watery.

Bottle. Dark with a medium head. Aroma is of grains and dark roasted coffee. Flavor is of slightly burnt grains with some alcohol warmth.

Dark colour, nice head. Standard Guinness with distinctive wheat and coffee notes. Lovely, as usual, although on tap is still much better.

12oz bottle. Poured a nice thick, creamy 2 finger foam that lasted about halfway down the glass. It had a light, roasty smell. The taste was very good. It starts out smooth and creamy before it becomes slightly acidic and finishes with a refreshing hoppiness. This beer has a lighter mouthfeel than most stouts and porters, but it is very creamy and satisfying. A very drinkable stout with a refreshing finish that is dry and hoppy, with a slightly sour edge. .

pretty much black in color, mostly just found it to be thin, very bitter and strong. sucks drainpour. Guinness must make more money off of their branded junk then they do the beer.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thin beige head and moderate lacing. Nose is bread, toasted malt and some dark fruits. Taste is burnt toast, cocoa and light bitter coffee in the finish. Lighter mouth feel than the regular, but this does not have the nitro boost. Decent stuff.

22oz bottle. Quite surprised to see I hadn*t already rated this one. Pours pitch black with a fully receding tan head. Aroma of mild roast, pale malt, toffee. Taste is actually fairly mild, light chocolate, nuts, and roast malt. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly chalky [basic] with soft carbonation. Enjoyable, but this is weak sauce compared to the Kalamazoo Stout.

Bought this thinking I was buying my first foreign stout. Pours black with a foamy tan head. Aroma of roast, burnt chocolate, nutty malts, and molasses. Taste is miild, with slight roast and chocolate. Heavy bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Pretty uneventful, and quite dissapointing. I need to find Lion Stout again...

12 oz bottle. Pours a thick black color with a nice full, mocha head that has ok retention and very nice lacing. Aroma is mostly toasty malt and roast aromas. Flavor is mostly chocolate and roasted malt and a bit of a tobacco finish. A little thin for what I was expecting on the palate. Very drinkable. I like it but it pales compared to the Draught.

Pours mahogany with reds coming through the corners when held to the light. 3-4 finger chunky tan head with good retention nice thick persitent lacing.. Aroma is roast, raisins, molasses, dates, and spiced ginger cookies. Flavor has a nice char roast malt, flame toasted french bread, on top of a sweet slice of carmely date nut bread. After a little bit the bitter hop notes come in with a earthy hebal slide to them, finish is slightly bitter hops, with the various roast flavors dissipating from a sort of tannic charred wood taste. Honestly I really like this beer but it really tastes kind of watered down, I would love to sample some of the versions the rest of the world gets.
