Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

Comes in a can with those little carbonation balls, great for Car Bombs, but not much else. A TransAtlantic journey kills the magic of European ales.

Pours dark brown/black with tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Sweet roated malt flavor with lots of bitterness. Mediun to full body with minimal carbonation.

Getting notebook online. Bottle. Very malty sour bitterness. Not much fruitiness. Really hits the roof of the mouth hard.

Bottle pours opaque black with thin tan head. Aroma is malt and some hops. First taste is sweet malt then hops. The finish is dry with little hops bitterness. Average.

I have had this beer on several occations, but have not rated it until now. I had it on tap at Riverbend. The pour was a dark brown, almost black. The aroma was roasted malts and chocolate. The flavor was watered down and it went down way smoother than I remembered. The finish is a tad bitter leaving a aftertaste slightly comparable to coffee.

Not much that has not been said, obviously. Dry and more sour that what I expected, also very alkaline. Very mild malt component, very burnt and earthy.

Malt, roast, lots of water. Burnt aroma and flavor. Thin, not very interesting or enjoyable. It is what it is.
