Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

On tap: Finally rating this one. The pour and cascade are well documented...as are the flavors really. Mild and refreshing yet with "darker" flavors. This is an easy choice for me at most places without an interesting selection of beers.

Dark and robust, bitter with a thick brown head. Has a wonderful roasted flavor. A nice brew.

Almost black, thin tan head and lace. Nose of mild coffee and chocolate. Fairly smooth, kind of a thinnish body and palate. Some decent coffee flavors and bitterness, moderately dry

deep black pour, aroma of roasted malt, and a touch of coffee, and some cheap grain. Nice thick mouth feel, some roasted malt in the flavour, and more cheap grain, meh. Decent stout. I prefer the draught out of the can.

Pours nearly black with a tan head and smells like malts and alcohol. Tastes like malt and some slight coffee. Finishes light and dry. Not a bad brew.

Good overall, but not as good as the draught. Pours dark with a brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. The body is pretty much black. Some coffee-ish flavors with roasted malts.

(Bottle). Malt and coffee aroma. Black with brown head. Mouthfeel is pleasingly full. However, the flavor balance, at least to me, leaves something to be desired. There is roastiness and a touch of coffee and malt....but nothing seems to work together. Then, there’s a rather weird bitterish finish that jars instead of satisfies.

Opaque black pour with a tan head - nice and thick fluffy. Malty aroma with some chocolate and caramel. Nice bitter malty flavor with molasses and a creamy coffee flavor. A bit watery, but overall a good beer. A classic!
