Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Couldnt pin point any unique aroma that differed from the Guinness Draught, which was malt and coffee in scent. The appearance is darker and the head was more tannish in color, but it did not stick around as long as with the nitro-can. Flavor was better than the draught, very nice roasted malt flavor. Overall it is a very good beer, just still surprised its only 5%! I think I need to try this on tap to re-evaluate and get a better impression.

I cant believe I havent rated this previously. Pours a very dark almost black color with fluffy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts. Flavor seems to me to be a bit more bitter than the Draught. Also thinner mouthfeel due to the lack of nitrogen. Decent beer.

Personally, what this gains in alcohol content over the Draught it loses in taste. Still a good beer, but not quite as good as the Draught. Much thinner also, with a more bitter taste.

Pours dark dark brown with a light tan head. Taste is of roasted grain and light hop bitterness. Not as sweet as the others.

Very dark with light brown head. Pleasant, slightly sweet aroma. Less smooth and more dry than Guinness Draught with more carbonation and a less creamy aftertaste. One of those beers where I enjoy the second more than the first.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown/black, with a red hue when held to the light. The head is thin, clingy, pillow and tan in color. Taste is of roasted malt, smoke, hops and is bitter in the finish. Has more body than the regular Guinness Draught. Aroma matches the taste. Overall, this is a pretty enjoyable and fulfilling beer that isn’t bad to have occasionally.

Pours a very dark brown with medium, light brown head and very little lacing. Dry tasting with hints of chocolate and light hops. Not my favorite stout but a good choice.
