Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

Wow, I didn’t know that there were so many versions of this beer. I believe mine is this one, as I got it at my corner AliBaba’s which is in no way a specialty shop, however this one has Guinness Brewing Company in Toronto, not London, Canada. Oh well, my guess is that it’s the same shit, but maybe the editor’s note should be updated, if necessary. In any event, this is a beer that’s hard to dislike. Robust flavor and rich appearance and drinking experience. Pours viscously with a 1/32 inch film. I taste coffee and musk. Very smooth and widely available, I’m glad I tried this for the first time in a while, as this may become a "go to" in places with limited selection in the future. So the best part of this beer is that it’s good, affordable, and relatively speaking, widely available.

aroma of roasted chocolate malt. black with beige head which doesn’t last long in my snifter. Flavor of bitter burnt strong coffee, roasted malt, hops. Thin mouthfeel, with carbonation. I think I prefer Guinness Draught based soley on the mouthfeel.

Pours near-black with a thick, foamy head which never completely goes away. Smells almost of coffee. Feels surprisingly bubbly despite its thickness. Taste is slightly roasted yet bitter. Guinness is a must for stout-lovers! Highly recommend! Even great out of an 80-oz glass boot! Whoo!

(cleaning out my beer bottle collection as pictured in my profile and utilizing ratebeer.com) As I recall, the classic dry stout. Pours black as night with bittery but malty flavors.

Extremely heavy. Very dark in color with a strong coffee cola aroma. Creamy yet bitter coffee/nutty flavor. Solid stout.

bottle. black pour with the famous thick, creamy head that seems to last forever. Roasty aroma with the slightest hint of dark chocolate. Somewhere between watery and not-so-heavy on palate with limited carbonation. Nutty, malty, roasty flavor. A descent beer, but not as flavorful as many of the ones I really like. However, this one will always be special to me as it led me from the crap beer to the craft beer world. Almost, but not quite as good as the stuff on tap.

Bottle. Black pour. White head. Nutty aroma. Longer lasting head than the canned version of Guiness that is available.

Bottle. Opaque, dark brown pour with 2-inch creamy light brown head. Aroma slight at refrigerator temperature; some yeast and caramel. Taste is medium sweet, slightly sour, slightly bitter. Starts sweet; sourness appears at back of tongue. Smokey, burnt aftertaste with caramel and brown sugar notes. Mouthfeel is full and lively. Good drink at good price.
