Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

bottle from the LCBO singles bin: Dark in the glass with a smallish cap. This Labatt version is a lot maltier and sweeter than the Irish version. It seems thin by comparison but this body isn’t bulked up with nitrogen. Decent stout for quaffing with mussels.

Very dark pour. Dark malts, coffee, cacao, etc. Very robust flavor and smooth mouthfeel. Loved it.

A black beer with no head. The aroma is dark malty but not really much to speak of. The taste starts off watery that leads to a dry bitter ending. A boring beer that lacks any kind of flavor profile.

This is pretty much exactly like Guinness Draught but with a bit more of what i’d describe as an iron note.

I prefer this one over the Guinness Draught. More aroma and flavor, and a slightly thicker palate. Flavor contains a bit of coffee and some hop bitterness in the finish. Nothing too overboard, but drinkable and smooth. An excellent session stout that is always easy to find.

2009 Bottle - Accidently drank this on Guinness day coincidently when using it to also make BBQ sauce...Pour is thin and black with a small tan head...aroma is roast and grain, burnt cocoa...flavour is similar, roasted malt, char, nice bitterness on the end...decent...

Guinness is one of my old favorites and a great stand-by. Dry and filling with a great taste.

This is the stout that I grew up with. I had this one way before the draft Guinness, and in a way, I missed it. It is shocking that it is brewed by Labatt, and it is brewed by wort from Guinness. Nevertheless, it is a tad bigger in body than the draft Guinness, but overall, the slight roasted malt flavor and thin body just falls short of other stouts of today’s micro-brewed crazed country.
