Earlier Rating: 1/27/2008 Total Score: 3.5 black pour with a tiny bit of lacings. lots of roasted malts on the nose but that’s about it. the thickness is very good and it’s tastes mainly of roasted malts. i’d take this over the draught honestly. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 20, 2008 Aroma of malt, grains, chocolate. Black color with a tan head. Smokey flavor with chocolate and coffee. Palate not nearly as smooth as the draught. All in all not bad but doesn’t compare to Guinness draught. mcox90 (634), Wilton, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 18, 2008 Bottle. Consumed yesterday (St. Pattys Day), seemed appropriate. Pours a dark brown that shows some red when held up to the light. Small off white head & spotty lacing. Aroma is faintly molasses & roasted malt. Mouthfeel is clean & dry. Flavors are molasses, roasted malt & a hint of chocolate. All flavors are mild. This is not a "big beer" by any means. Still, it was nice visiting an old friend. stubby (326), Santee, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 17, 2008 12oz bottle in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, even though this is brewed far away from Ireland. Very dark brown or black pour with a massive tan head. At least 3 fingers thick with incredible retention and some very nice lacing. Nose of dry malts, chocolate, coffee, roasted grains and some molasses. Also get some tangy fruit esters at the very end of a big whiff. Fore is astringent roasted malts, bitter chocolate, coffee grounds and molasses. Tangy fruit notes build up in the back of the throat and throughout the finish. Light to medium bodied, perfect for the style. Astringency builds and dries out the palate as more of the beer is consumed. Roasted malts and chocolate dominate the finish. A nice bitterness becomes apparent as well. Good stuff. beerdad (74), Kansas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2008 Can. Pours black, creamy white head. Smooth velvety texture. Subdued for a stout, but overall a good drink. Slightly malty, with a bit of coffee. Decent, but not the best stout, also not near the worst. GJF (501), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 17, 2008 I’ve been skeptical about the guinness-labatt’s connection, but I think it’s worked out really well. This is still a classic beer, pours almost black with a thick, rocky tan head. A nice roasted aroma and a very dense, chewy, roasted malt flavor with a delightful sourness to it. The dry finish goes on and on with layers of roasted bitterness and sourness. Much preferable to the draught cans which don’t have that sour quality to it and lose some of the depth. robertjm (403), El Cerrito, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2008 Canadian Guinness?!!?!? Well, at least its nots being bottled by Miller or Bud! (Enough with the editorializing). Pours a very thick head. Leaves lots of foam on the glass as its starting to fall. Typical dark brown color with little light passing through it. Nice lightly malty head. Tastes a heck of a lot better than what I remember the last few years. Good bitterness in the mouth, probably from some roasted malts. I think one of the reasons why I’m enjoying this more than the others is that I usually buy the draught cans. That softens the flavors a bit.
