Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

12 oz. bottle made in Moosehead brewery in New Brunswick, Canada. Pours a deep black that hints at some redness when held up to a light with a powerful awe inspiring beige head. The aroma is mostly roasted malts with some hints of sweet coffee. The taste is more bitter than draught Guinness; uncooked coffee beans, roasted malts, old car oil, some light hops and a tiny dark fruit aspect. A bit too weak for my desire, but I will always love Guinness. It’s the champ in many ways.

Lacking the complexity of the Draught it tends to be on the bitter side. Its still better than most commonly found beer but doesn’t measure up to Bass, Newcastle, Draught, Yuengling or Killians in my book.

I have had this brew countless times and forgot to rate it. Pours a murky ruby red color almost black. Nice frothy tan head that fades unlike the draught. Taste is much fruitier than the draught with the same bitter coffee aftertaste. Overall a pretty averge beer but has more flavor than the draught which to me is not a good thing. Prefer the draught....

a wonderfully attractive stout with a lasting, frothy head and a pleasant mouthfeel. the only drawback is the taste, it just doesnt live up to some of the stronger stouts that i have sampled

12 oz. bottle pours black with a thin tan head, decent lacing. Pleasant buttered toast smell. Thick, chewy mouthfeel. Taste is of toasted grains and black coffee. Has a bitter black coffee after taste. Not bad for a mass produced stout, and better tasting than it’s canned draught sibling.

Bottled. Poured medium-deep brown with a tall, fluffy cap of tan head. The aroma picked up dry-roasted chocolates, sweetened iced tea, and sweet caramel.. herbal notes accent.. really sweet, but I rather enjoyed it. The flavor had supa-sweetened dry semi-sweet chocolates, chalky herbs, and molasses.. leaving an ugly lingering coffee and herbal bitterness on the finish.. this was tasty until right there in the end. Light-medium bodied with too much sweetness for its own good on the palate.. the finish was a bit painful, and had some sourness to it. Not bad overall.

On tap. Black beer with light tan head. Chocolaty aromas. Dry on the palate. full body, but not ’heavy’. Finishes with a touch of sourness.

Pours with a light tan head, dark brown color in the glass. Smells off lightly roasted chocolate and coffee with a slight metallic tinge. Flavor is pillowy on the tongue, starts off thick and hoppy with overtones of malt, ending slightly watery. A metallic bitterness is left at the end which dissipates quickly. Taste is left lingering on the top of the throat at back and moves down until it is no longer noticed.
