Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

Bottle, pours dark, wonderful frothy head that lasts. Very dry, slightly bitter or acidic, burnt roasted flavor, malty. Very smooth, good for cold weather.

Nice dark brown with light tan head. This beer, eventhough much more mainstream that some, stil holds it’s own. I thoroughly enjoy this beer’s roasty flavor.

Guinness Extra Stout is a great beer to drink anytime, although I prefer the Draught. One of the most common dark beers sold in the US. Good stuff.

12oz bottle. Liquorice, dry malt, light coffee and lactose on the nose. Pours dark brown with a thin khaki head. Quite dry and bitter on the tongue. Lots of bitter and roasted malt. Some vanilla, dry oak. Lots of "roasty" notes. Medium bodied with good carbonation.

Pours black. With a thick brown head. Aroma is malty with coffee and caramel notes. Tastes roasted with strong coffee flavor and a little hop bite at the end.

Smell is rather non-descript - a bit lagery with a touch of malt. Smells more hoppy as it warms. Damn fine head on this one - very thick and velvety, with a dark complexion. Initially a bit thin in the body, but the carbonation takes hold upon entry and thickens the brew considerably. Flavor starts a good bit tart, then finishes both roasty and hoppy. Quite dry. Sort of reminds me of midwestern dark ales. This brew is nothing special but decent nonetheless. I do, however, prefer the Draught.
