Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

I just had this with a steak dinner and it really tasted well. A great taste to go with a full body, a good beer.

Bottle. Appearance: Dark brown/black, thick tan head. Aroma: Very mild roasted coffee malt. Palate: Fairly thick, coats mouth. Flavor: Bittersweet roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Very slight metallic taste on the back of the tongue. Overall: This beer just isn’t the same from a bottle.

Better than the canned draught version with nitrogen, almost as good as the draught pulled from a tap. Nice aroma lacks any hop aroma. Looks great, black with a nice rocky head. Flavor is straight forward with a very dry finish on the dry side. Nothing complex about Guinness, just good ole dark roasted goodness. The mouthfeel of the Extra Stout is far superior to canned draught, though it’s a bit too bitter like it has just a tad too much black patent malt. A bottle of this never disappoints.

pours a dark brownish black ith a light brown head. aroma is coffee, roast malt, some vanilla, milk. taste is pretty much the same. starts off wet & heavy giving way to a nice roasty malt flavor that finishes smooth and bitter. for an uber-massproduced brew, this one’s pretty good. i like this one better than the draught.

Pours thick black into the pint glass with a huge tan head. Scents of chocolate, cream, vanilla and coffee. Dry, thick body with tastes of roasted malt and coffee. More robust than the can and on tap.

24 oz. bottle. After a vigorous pour, very dark brown color with a dark head of modest size. NO cascade : ( Aroma was very faint and smelled like dried apricot, coffee, and molasses--more complex than I remember Guinness. Taste is burnt chocolate malts--flat and dry. Tastes like prunes. It goes w/o saying that the draft is better.

Pours black with a thick white head. Slight dry roasted barley aroma. Roasted barley, malt and a hint of chocolate in the taste. Finishes clean. Solid.
