Commercial Description:
Labatt's brew a pale ale base to which is added the unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract. Guinness Extra Stout is brewed in Canada by Labatt under license from Arthur Guinness Son & Company. Editor's Note: It looks like Moosehead is also brewing Guinness. Bottles in the US are from there of late, but Canadian bottles are still showing Labatt. 04/23/06

Ahhh much better than a standard Guinness. Good flavor and a deeper and richer taste.

Labatt version. Aroma is strong, malty and dry. Tastes good, the strength is in the simplicity. Prominent hop bitterness with a touch of plum and cherry flavor, and the malt only for texture. A good, dark sessioner. Goes really well with honey-roasted peanuts.

Pours a deep reddish brown with a dense, pillowy, tan head. On the nose are dark roasted malts, light coffee and chocolate notes as well as a bit of sour milk (and initially, metal). Light-to-medium bodied and slick with a sour/astringent finish. The flavor follows the nose with a distinctly sour/bitter finish that transitions to a dry, bitter, metallic aftertaste. While this is certainly a bolder beer than its ubiquitous cousin, I actually prefer that softer and arguably blander beer to this one.

Deep dark poor with a medium light brown foamy head showing a little lacing. Aromas of dark chocolate, roasted malts, burnt toast and thats about it. A slightly pungent flavor or sensation in mouth that i have probs describing ... sour?... Nicely bitter and has a medium body but maybe a little to much carbonation. Nothing realy more to add... better than the Guiness draught...

12oz bottle. thanks carmen! solid black color is left with a little less than an inch of sandy head. tart sourish nose is backed by some robust aromas. sour cherries come to mind when i drink this. the back end tastes less robust and more burnt. the body is thin and watery and fades to more of the sour fruit. this is way worse than i remember.

This is generally nice and smooth, with a good, rich, thick head and almost no fizziness. The flavours are good and and it has a pretty full palate. This was my first stout type after Watney’s, but now I find it a little bland and less complex by comparison with others. It’s a little one-sided with a little too much strength on the chocalate’coffee element and too little in other departments. However, it’s still good and quite drinkable. It is much better than the Guinness Draught.

This was an excellent beer. The appearance is almost sensual but the dark color and firm taste holds a very masculine appeal.
