Aroma dominated by roast malt - not much else there. Flavour is not much different, although you can add to it some burnt toast, and a touch of both sweet chocolate and sour apple cider. Medium body, and perhaps a little heavily carbonated for the style. Much better than Guinness Draught. chadcs (76), Westminster, South Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2007 Pours black with lasting head. not much carbonation (which isn’t a bad thing). Alittle dry with a note of bitterness at the end but not overwhelming. Similar to Guinness Draught, but stronger and thicker in the mouth. Burnt toast flavor and aroma. Opaque and black. Delicious. mansquito (827), Boston/Philadelphia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 29, 2007 Thick off white beige head. Almost black as all night. Mild roasty aroma. A little less bitter than the normal Guinness. There is also a mild hoppy taste somewhere in there. Coffee and chocolate make their appearances as well. Earlier Rating: 11/2/2006 Total Score: 3.4 Nigh chocolately falvor, with a bunch of bitterness and body to back it up. Drank it out of the bottle, but color was really apparent by looking into the dark bottle. Definately a well crafted beer. Don’t know whether I prefer this or Guinness Draught. Both are good, but this one probably has a richer flavour. BREWMUSKCLES (1070), New Jersey, USA

It’s the benchmark by which all other stouts, particularly dry/Irish stouts, are judged.
Similar qualities to a dry port. Roasted malt comes through in the nose and palate. Very mild hops aroma.
Most Guinness drinkers overlook Extra Stout for Draught. Two totally different brews. Draught drinkers are missing out, IMHO.

| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 5/20 | Aug 15, 2007 this is the only Guinness stout that we have been able to get in the US before the nitro widget stuff arrived. I had my first one of these in the 70s. My tastes have matured greatly since then and this beer is too crude for my palate now. My advice is to get a Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout bomber for a real great, easily located import stout.
